Fender Precision Bass

Fender Precision Bass
Why does a Fender Precision bass buzz when the tone is turned all the way up?

It goes down when I am touching the strings but not all the way.
I need it mostly for harmonics because they come through much stronger that way.

If it is a Fender, as opposed to a Squire, then all the problem can be is a slight problem with earthing, the connection of the pickup to the controls, or maybe not even that. Try a new jack lead, try through a different amp, and if you are using a standard pickup configuration, it could just be a matter of tightening the screws on the pickup.

Squire is slightly trickier, because the quality of the parts used is not good. For this you may have to take your bass into a shop, or back where you bought it. Fender or Squire, the chances are high that its a very slight fault that youve overlooked, it shouldnt cost you much, if anything at all, and the solution should be quick and easy.

Precision Basses are excellent, tried and tested for the last 55 years. But, being the first massproduced electric Bass Guitar on the market, its popularity sometimes gets the better of it, even to this day. Many innovations in eletronics and materials used have been made since its introduction as a product, but the design has remained the same, unfortunately, so have some of its faults.

Hope this helps at least a little, good luck.
