Fender Stevie Ray
old fender strats like stevie ray vaughan the wood wears over time, do the current ones wear over time?

just wondering about the fender stratocaster american guitars, the old ones like stevie ray vaughan has been ripped to shreads by his playing over time just wondering if the currents one are made out of same stuff to wear if played for long time will they look the same

Hi! Pretty much any guitar will wear over time, especially with an aggressive picking style like SRV had! The earlier Fender instruments had primarily thin nitrocellulose lacquer coatings, which would sink into the wood over time, making the surfaces that much more prone to wear. Most of the newer instruments (e.g., American Standard) use a thick polyurethane coating, which will take more of a beating before exposing the underlying wood surface. It really comes down to playing style, the manner in which the instrument is handled and cared for, and the specific type of finish applied to the guitar. An excellent overview of Fender guitar body finishes can be seen at http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fenderc.html . Best regards, Dana
