Stratocaster Mim

Stratocaster Mim
I recently purchased a mim stratocaster which has three volume controls. Can anyone identify this for me?

The guitar is a special edition, candy apple red in color with a MZ40 and 5 other digits in the serial number. I haven’t been able to find any stratocasters with three volume controls.

Hello! Two possibilities come to mind. First, the factory messed up (quality control level varies between sites) and installed two volume control knobs where there should have been tone knobs. This could have been a mistake, or they were pressed to make delivery and put on what they had in stock at the time. Second (and least likely), each pickup actually has a separate volume control, allowing for an infinite range of tone adjustment (pretty cool, but also overkill). I had not been aware of Fender producing any Stratocasters with this option in the past, but weird stuff happens. If it was really set up that way, the pickup selector switch may have been eliminated, so check to see if you have one. It is easy enough to check the function of each control; I think once you find out for sure, you will probably be purchasing a couple of tone control knobs! Best regards, Dana
